Ahead of the October 5 local government elections, All Progressives Congress (APC), Akwa Ibom State chapter says 29 chairmanship and 368 councillorship candidates have been cleared.

But, the party says it is contesting against the decision of Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) in failing to clear the two disqualified chairmanship candidates.

Addressing a press conference at the NUJ secretariat, Uyo on Tuesday, ahead of September 18 flag-off at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, Chairman, APC Local Government Elections Campaign/Planning Committee, Senator Ita Enang announced the party’s preparedness to surmount all odds to secure victory for its candidates.

“We will not let them run away to write what they want. Governor Umo Eno has assured and we believe that there will be a level playing field, but if they do not allow a level playing field, we will play also in the unleavened field” he said.

“We are confident that having taken the bold steps of ensuring autonomy of Local government and ensuring that government is run at three-tiers and having rescued the Local Government from the kidnap of the states, we are confident that we are going to contest and win in all the 31LGAs of the state.

“Akwa Ibom is APC state, only controlled by PDP. So we want to demonstrate our strength in this election. We want to show the capacity of the APC, what we are capable of doing. I am sure you have not been satisfied with the performance of LGAs in Akwa Ibom State. Local Government is supposed to tar roads, ensure agricultural and other development. That is why we are interested in this election”.

Also speaking, the member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Patrick Umoh said the party is well prepared for the elections.

“We are ready for the election. Our presumptions are that; AKISIEC will be dependent, the Governor will yield a level playing field. We trust we will win the majority of the LGAs because we are not going to look at it as business as usual. We will win across the length and breadth of our constituencies”.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Akwa A’Ibom State chapter say it is poised to win majority of the Chairmanship and councillorship positions in the October 5 Local Government Elections.

    Akpabio expresses confidence in Eno

Meanwhile, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has expressed unwavering confidence that Governor Umo Eno will not obstruct the All Progressives Congress (APC) from securing victories in the upcoming Akwa Ibom Local Government (LG) elections scheduled for October 5.

Akpabio made this assertion while speaking at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium during the official flag-off of campaigns and presentation of APC flags to candidates and the launch of the party’s LG campaign.

Addressing the large crowd, Akpabio vowed to inundate Akwa Ibom with developmental projects, appointments, and empowerment programs, dispelling the notion that APC lacks presence in the state. “I promised to take you to the center of national politics, and I have fulfilled that promise. Now, we will go even further,” Akpabio declared.

He outlined several ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at transforming the state, including the construction of 14 ICT centers, 30 schools, seven town halls, and 14 primary health centers.

Akpabio also launched the Godswill Obot Akpabio (GOA) Back to Farm Initiative, starting with the distribution of 600 bags of fertilizer and rice to each of the 31 local government areas.

The Senate President emphasized his commitment to enhancing health-care and infrastructure across the state. “By December, we will commission new town halls, modern markets, and numerous road projects. Over 42 new roads are already under construction,” he said.

Senator Godswill Akpabio addressing APC supporter

Akpabio thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing Akwa Ibom indigenes to key positions, noting that

empowerment programs, including scholarships and monthly stipends, will benefit thousands of residents.

Addressing the upcoming LG polls, Akpabio voiced his trust in Governor Eno’s democratic values. “I believe Governor Umo Eno, being a man of God, will respect the people’s mandate wherever APC wins,” he stated confidently.
