A 29-year-old brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attempting to steal a three-year-old child from her school faces 14 years of imprisonment if found guilty.
Samuel Ubadire pleaded not guilty to the offence was released on bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety.
Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin, Police Prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 18 at 3 p.m. at Champions Baptist Academy, Trade Fair Complex, Alaba in Ojo area of Lagos.
Omisakin alleged that the accused attempted to steal a child (name withheld) after school hours.
“The accused tried to lure her before taking her away.”
The offence contravened Section 406(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias adjourned the case until Feb. 21.
In another development, a 28-year-old man suspected human trafficker undergoing interrogation at the Ughelli PoliceArea Command, Delta State for allegedly luring a 15-year-old girl to Mali without her parents’ permission faces court trial.
The suspect, Gift Confidence, who resides in Afiesere community, Ughelli North local government area of the State, was arrested by detectives from the Ughelli Area Command after parents of the victim reported the missing of their daughter since January 5, 2018.
Confirming the arrest, Muhammed Mustafa, Delta State Commissioner of Police, who said the victim- Ejiro Etu- was taken to an unknown destination by the suspect, noted that the whereabout of the victim was yet unknown before the bubble burst.
Mustafa said upon interrogation, the suspect admitted that the victim washis friend and left the shores of the country for Mali on her own volition but was not lured or forced by anybody to embark on the journey.
The commissioner stated that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
