A 70-year-old man was Monday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court for alleged manslaughter.
Muyideen Alani of no fixed address is facing a two-count charge bordering on reckless driving which resulted to the death of one Mohammed Lawan.
The prosecutor, Insp. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 27, at about 8.10 a. m. at Tempo Bus-Stop, Obasanjo Farm area, Ota.
Mustapha alleged that the defendant recklessly drove a tipper, with number plate: KTU 703 XV on the highway, resulting to the death of 28-year-old Lawan.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 5 and 13(1) of the Federal Highway Act Cap 135, Revised Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mr Matthew Akinyemi, the Chief Magistrate, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akinyemi said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.
The case was adjourned to May 3 for hearing.
