A middle-aged man, one Akaninyene Johnson Nkonduok from Utu Ikot Imonte village, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state is facing noose for committing murder, an Akwa Ibom High Court in Abak ordered.
The accused was convicted for committing murder in 2021 in his village would die by hanging.
In a case number: HA/35C/2021, the prosecuting State Counsel, Mrs. Nancy Idungafa narrated that the town crier of the village, Imoh Amos, acting on the authority of the village leadership, announced a compulsory sanitation exercise the following day in the village.

According to her, the village made the exercise mandatory for all the youths to participate, failure of which they would pay a fixed fine.
Idungafa recounted that ‘‘The town crier and others went to the convicted person to find out why he failed to participate in the village sanitation.
‘‘The convict reacted by drawing a machete and inflicting severe machete cuts on Amos that resulted in the death of the victm.’’
Nkonduok was immediately arrested and eventually arraigned before the high court.
The defense counsel, Utibe Nwoko made spirited effort to save the accused, but he could not.
However, the court presided over by Justice Eno Isangidihi sentenced the accused to death by hanging.
