Akwa Ibom Governor’s wife, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel on Saturday harped on the need for Christians to bequeath Godly legacy worthy of emulation after one’s passage to the great beyond to the living.
Mrs Emmanuel gave the advice at Nkek Enen Ido in Ukanafun Local Government Area during the funeral service of the mother-in-law to Hon. (Dr.) Charity Ido, member representing Ukanafun State Constituency in the state House of Assembly.
While lauding the deceased’s good legacy as reflected in the lifestyle of Dr. Ido’s family members, Dr. Martha stressed the need for Christians to have a consistent lifestyle to avoid being branded as hypocrites, noting that “true loyalty means standing for a thing without shifting grounds.”
Speaking further, the Governor’s wife described Dr. Charity Ido a symbol of true loyalty and hard work, as was bequeathed to her by the mother-in-law.
She, however, appealed to the men on the pulpit to preach the right message to their congregants, which can instill love, unity and true repentance, rather than engendering divisiveness and primordial sentiments among the people.
She urged the bereaved family members to take solace in the Lord and not mourn like those without hope, maintaining that the best consolation for the departed is for the bereaved to keep up her ideals and live a life that pleases God, their Maker.
The ceremony was attended by members of the State Executive Council led by the Dean College of Commissioners/Special Advisers, Dr. Glory; member representing Ukanafun/OrukAnam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Unyime Idem.
Others were Ukanafun political leader, Rt. Hon. Eno Akpan; state PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan; the State and Federal Legislators, among others.
