The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has sanctioned 21 broadcast stations in the country for various breaches of the broadcasting code during the third quarter of this year.
A statement issued by the Commission Tuesday indicated that the affected stations contravened the Nigerian broadcasting code, which includes breaches of the rules on hateful speech, vulgar lyrics, unverifiable claims and unverifiable claims.
“All the erring stations were fined according to the provisions of the Nigerian broadcasting code,” NBC indicated.
It reminded the erring stations that they have the duty to promote the socio-economic well-being of the country, and urged them to abide strictly by the provision of the Nigerian broadcasting code or face more sanctions.
Some affected stations with option of fine include: Family FM, Awka (N200,000); Express FM Radio, Kano (N100,000); Royal FM Abuja (100,000); Flo FM Umuahia (N100,000); Radio Continental, Lagos (N100,000); Crystal 100.5 FM, Minna (N100,000) and Crowther FM, Abuja (N100,000), among others.
