National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted accreditation to programmes run by Trinity Polytechnic, Mbak/Ifa Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
This is as the Rector and Pioneer Registrar of the Polytechnic, Kingsley S. Udoibok, FCAI, has decried the proliferation of Polytechnics.
A letter dated May 27, 2022, signed by the Director, Polytechnic Programme, Arc. Ngbede Ogoh for Executive Secretary and copied to Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Abuja announced approval of academic programmes.
They include Accountancy, Business Administration/Management, Computer Eng. & Tech., Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Estate Management, and Science Laboratory Technology.
Others Mass Communications, Public Administration , Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Welding & Fab. Technology and Statistics.
“With reference to the Quality Assurance visitation carried out by the board to your institution from April 26-30, 2022, that the board has approved the accreditation of the following programmes offered by your institution for a period of five years with effect from 2021/2022 session,” the letter reads.
NBTE noted that the board was satisfied with the facilities and equipment already in place in Trinity Polytechnic which was the main reason the institution was granted accreditation.
Speaking later with newsmen in Uyo, Udoibok, FCAI, the Polytechnic Rector, thanked God for the accreditation granted the institution, saying that it did not come on the platter of gold but by dint of hard work and discipline.
“The school whose founder’s principles anchored on Jesus Christ commenced operation on 24th October, 2016. The commissioning was done by Rev. Ntia I. Ntia on 20th May 2016. All the courses we put forth for inspection and take off were approved and operational licence issued as a private Polytechnic without any revisit by the regulatory agency.
“We started with 500 students. I’m speaking as a pioneer registrar of this institution. In the second year, students’ population rose to 600. This shows that the school has what it takes in terms of facilities and human, studios and well- equipped departments. The environment is serene enough for any student that wants to learn.
“We succeed because we operate with the fear of God. We don’t cut corners. Some people call it Christian Polytechnic. During the Quality Assurance visitation by the NBTE, everything was practically on ground. Our institution has proven what Polytechnic education should look like. We don’t sell results and certificates here.
‘‘Unfortunately, some mushroom polytechnics opened and operated as business centres not as academic institution are misleading the public of what Polytechnic education is not. They don’t have operational approval NBTE; they do what they like. Here we succeed because of quality assurance we embark upon and it is an approved institute for ICAN ATS and Project Management.
Mr. Udoibok stated that the Polytechnic management does not condone rascality and malpractice from both lecturers and students, even as he stressed that Entrepreneurship Programme is compulsory to all students so that when they graduate they have what to fall back on instead of roaming the street in search of non-existent government work.
Entrepreneurship Programme, according to him, include plumbing, welding and fabrication, confectionery, fishery, poultry farming, rabbit farming, paint making, detergents and fumigation, ICT in all fields of specialization.
He stated that every student has to pass through their three or six months Entrepreneurship Programme before graduating based on area of interest and choice, “all the solar installations done in our school are done by our students as part of their practice.”
The Rector called on parents to make use of Trinity Polytechnic in the ongoing 2022/2023 admission exercise as first choice institution for their children as a way of resolving the economic reality in the country.
After series of visits and inspections, NBTE finally on March 20-21, 2016, visited and approved all the Departments and Courses of Trinity Polytechnic. As a result, gave the Institution the needed accreditations to start academic programmes.
Trinity Polytechnic established in 2010 was officially commissioned by Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2016.
