Amidst sporadic gunshots and confusion in the Assembly Complex, a new speaker has emerged for Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
He is Monday Obolo, a member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency II, whose emergence came shortly after sounds of gunshots were heard in the Assembly complex.
Straightnews gathered that Rtd. Hon. Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, the immediate speaker Assembly, who tendered his resignation three days ago.
It is learned that Isenah’s resignation, on Friday afternoon, followed pressure mounted on him by some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders to quit his position ahead of the November 16th governorship election.
The newspaper further gathered that Mr Isenah had on Friday told his colleagues and workers of the House of Assembly that he would resign Monday, but as the lawmakers were having a closed door session, the gunmen stormed the chamber and made away with the Mace.
Mr Monday Obolo of southern Ijaw 2 who is now the new speaker of the house told journalists that he was elected by 18 members in the house.
Owing to the confusion, the new speaker is yet to be sworn in.
