Shehu Sani, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has hailed Russian President, Vladimir Putin, for cancelling Africa’s debt to Russia of $23 billion.
President Vladimir Putin of Russia said that Moscow has written off $23 billion debt to Africa to relieve the debt burden of African countries, during the plenary session of the Russia-Africa Summit on Friday, July 28 of the ongoing second Russia-Africa Summit 20238.
Putin said that Moscow would provide an additional $90 million for such initiatives, and Russia is actively lobbying for more African representation on the UN Security Council and other UN bodies.
“According to the latest requests from African countries, we will allocate more than 90 million more for these purposes and their development,” he said.
This follows his promise to give six African nations up to 50,000 metric tons of free grain in the next three to four months despite Western sanctions on Russian exports.
Sani said Africa would stay adamantly opposed to Russia’s invasion and annexation of sections of Ukraine despite Russia being a great friend of Africa in the past and the present.
