A Nigerian social media commentator and critic has lampooned President Muhammadu Buhari for embarking on a private visit to London instead of paying such to any known tourist centre in the country.
President Buhari, Thursday, left Nigeria for the United Kingdom on a private visit, according to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement.
Buhari had in 2017 spent about six months in London on medical tourism, an action many Nigerians saw as depleting the country’s hard-earned external reserve.
Reno Omokri, a one-time aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, tweeted “President @Mbuhari NEVER goes on private visits to Obudu Cattle Ranch, or Yankaru Games Reserve, or Ikogosi Warms Springs, or Gashaka Gumpti National Park.
“Yet, this president that was elected by the Nigerian PUBLIC loves to visit the British in PRIVATE #BuhariThePrivateVisitor.”
Omokri in his Twitter handle on Thursday disdained “MBuhari’s goes on PRIVATE visit to London. His children schooled PRIVATELY in Britain. Even his wife shops PRIVATELY in Britain.
“The headline should have been ‘Buhari Ends Visit to Nigeria, Returns to UK Base’. PRIVATE visit in PUBLIC Presidential Jet #BuhariThePrivateVisitor.”
He turned his gun on acerbic comment by Senator Chris Ngige, the Labour Minister not Helath minister thus “While our health minister boasts that we have too many doctors and asks the few we do have to go abroad, Ghana is expanding her own healthcare system by using drones to deliver medical care to rural Ghanaians. Who is the real Giant of Africa #RenosDarts.”
