Some prominent Nigerians have commiserated with music icon David Adeleke popularly known as Davido over the untimely death of his son, Ifeanyi.
Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and his counterparts in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu and Labour Party, Peter Obi, have sent condolence messages to Davido.
The three-year-old son of the music star reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at his father’s residence in the Banana Island area of Lagos State on Monday.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page, Osinbajo said he and his wife, Dolapo, were saddened by the tragic loss of the toddler.
Reacting to the sad incident on Tuesday via his verified Twitter page, Atiku wrote, “My thoughts and prayers are with Davido and Chioma and the Adeleke family at this time. I pray for God to strengthen and comfort them.”
Also reacting through his verified Twitter handle, Tinubu wrote, “Oluremi and I send our heartfelt and deepest condolences to David, Chioma, and the entire Adeleke family over the tragic loss of their son, Ifeanyi. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. May the Lord grant them the fortitude and strength to deal with this painful tragedy.”
In his message, Obi prayed God to grant Davido and his partner Chioma healing.
“I send my sincere condolences to Davido and Chioma, over the death of their son Ifeanyi. I cannot begin to imagine the pains they are going through at the moment. May God grant them healing, strength and comfort in this trying time. My thoughts and prayers are with the family,” the former Anambra State governor wrote on his verified Twitter page.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola also sympathised with the ace singer, David Adedeji, also known as Davido, over the death of his son, Ifeanyi, saying that it is a loss no responsible person would ever wish for.
The Governor prayed to God to comfort him and the entire family at this trying time.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, Oyetola said: “On behalf of myself and the people of Osun, I sympathise with Davido, over the death of his son, Ifeanyi. I know how painful it is to see a boy we all saw last week bubbling with life to now be referred to in the past. I pray God comfort you and Chioma. Rest assured, very soon, God will bless you both with another son who will live long to fulfil his dreams in life.”
Oyetola added: “I pray God give you both and your parents the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
Davido was one of the key players to the victory of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke of the PDP over Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress during the Osun State Governorship Election in July 2022.
Similarly, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, has commiserated with the Adeleke family and Ace Musician Davido over the untimely death of their son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
In a condolence message by the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu in Asaba, Okowa said the death of a loved one is usually painful especially that of a promising young child.
Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the PDP has suspended political activities for the week over the tragic passing of Davido’s son.
PDP Caretaker Chairman in the state, Adekunle Akindele in a condolence message to the Adeleke family on Tuesday described the incident as “a very sad occurrence”.
He, therefore, directed all party organs and committees to suspend activities in commiseration with the family,
“Our condolence goes to Davido, our youth ambassador. We commiserate with our father figure, Dr Deji Adeleke and the entire Adeleke family. We pray the good Lord grant the family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Akindele said.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin said about eight domestic staffers were quizzed over the tragic incident.
In 2018, Nigerian music star, Daniel Oyebanjo, aka D’banj, lost his son, Daniel Jr. in similar tragic circumstance.
