Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, will be in Akwa Ibom State for a family and community engagement, on Friday, February 1, 2019.
Briefing the press in Uyo on Thursday, Mr. Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters (Senate), who confirmed the visit, said that the vice president will be attending a series of events on Friday.
According to Enang, Osinbajo will meet with Christian groups, the business community as well as traders in the state.
He further said that the vice president would also join the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign that will hold in Nsit Atai local government area of the state.
“By way of some details, when he arrives the airport tomorrow, he will join the APC rally at Odot in Nsit Atai local government area. He will address the rally together with our governorship candidate. From there, he will head for some private visits.
“He will also visit Akpan Andem Market in Uyo to familiarise himself and interact with the citizens there. He will go from there to Ikot Ekpene where he will also visit another market and interact with the citizens there. He will return from there to have a meeting with APC chieftains.
“He will proceed from there to Le Meridien Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, Uyo where he will meet Akwa Ibom professionals and some Chief Executive Officers of businesses who are either from Akwa Ibom state or resident in the state. After that, he will interact with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to answer questions and generally relate with them,” he explained.
The president’s aide, however, said that the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, will be at the airport to receive the vice president on arrival as the state protocol demands.
While stressing that the visit of the vice president has nothing to do with the controversial TraderMoni, Enang insisted that Osinbajo will visit the markets strictly for familiarisation purposes.
Addressing concerns that the vice president will not visit Eket Senatorial District of the state, Enang said that the visit will only last for a day and as such, there may not be enough time to go to the area.
