    Police arrest two suspected hoodlums, recover dangerous firearms

    Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested two suspected hoodlums and recovered a firearm during a routine patrol in Uyo.
    A statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the arrest was made in the early hours of Thursday, October 2, 2025, along Idoro Road by Abolin Junction.
    The suspects, identified as Joshua Benjamin of Mbiaku in Ikono Local Government Area and Kingsley Friday Michael of Ikot Ekop in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, were reportedly intercepted around 12:30 a.m. while loitering in a dark spot.

    ”In a proactive effort to rid Akwa Ibom State of criminal elements, operatives of the Command have arrested two suspected hoodlums and recovered dangerous weapons in Uyo.
    ”In the early hours of Thursday, 2nd October, 2025, operatives while on routine patrol along Idoro Road by Abolin Junction, intercepted two suspicious individuals loitering in a dark spot.
    ”At about 0030hrs, the vigilant patrol team arrested, One Joshua Benjamin, male, from Mbiaku Ikono Local Government Area and One Kingsley Friday Michael, male, from Ikot Ekop, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
    Instant search on them led to the recovery of the following: One fabricated revolving AK-47 rifle, ⁠one jack knife.”
    According to her, ”Upon interrogation, the suspects failed to provide any reasonable explanation for their suspicious presence at that hour. They falsely claimed to be security guards but could not present uniforms, means of identification, or any credible source for the firearm found in their possession.
    ”The suspects are currently undergoing further interrogation.
    ”The Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across Akwa Ibom State. Members of the public are enjoined to remain vigilant and promptly report all suspicious activities to the nearest Police formation.”
