Popular radio and public affairs commentator from Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria is dead.
Gloria Ekong died Wednesday, January 13, 2021, according to her close associate.
The cause of her death is unknown.
But she was still active, with her last post on Facebook recorded on January 12 at 7.39 pm.
Reacting to her demise, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information & Strategy Ini Ememobong said she would be “greatly missed”.
“I am greatly saddened by the news of the death of Miss Gloria Ekong, who was a strong supporter of the PDP and Government,” the commissioner said in a statement on Facebook.
Ememobong in his Facebook penned “Her sudden death is a big loss to the media community, government and her community. She’ll be greatly missed. This pain is deep!”
A friend of the late Gloria, Aniebiet Antia wrote: “I tried my very best. I ran from my house to your house to see how I can take you to the hospital for your rescue after receiving a chat from your neighbor about your critical condition but arriving your home, I met your lifeless body.”
Antia added “Rt. HON. Onofiok Luke [Former Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Speaker and current House of Representatives member] was willing to pay any amount for your rescue”.
“You have been a sister, friend and helper countless number of times. Is it the assistance you sent to me last week? Glo it is well. Rest in peace.”
Udeme Utip, a journalist wrote ”Sis, I had a call at about 12.30 a.m. today. The caller asked if I knew or heard anything about you and I said no.
”At the end of the conversation he said ‘I wish it is not true. I have waited the whole day, wishing to receive another call that would tell me; it is not true’ to no avail. So, it is true …’’ she added.
Ekong, an indigene of Itu Local Government Area, studied History and International Studies in the University of Uyo.
