Today is judgment day at the Presidential Election Tribunal Court, Abuja where verdict of the petition against the emergence of Bola Tinubu as President of Nigeria is being delivered.
Tension is mounting as Justice Haruna Tsammani is reading his lead judgement and the the plaintiffs and defendants of the unpredictable election result are piping their hearts.
In the crowded court, Vice President, Kashim Shettima; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Labour party chairman Julius Abure, APC chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and others are in attendance.
The APC governors present are those of Kogi, Yahaya Bello; Nassarawa, Abdullahi Sule; Imo, Hope Uzodimma; Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji; Yobe’s Mai Mala Buni.
APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo are in attendance too.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State is among the top PDP dignitaries present at the event in Abuja.
PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) are challenging President Bola Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election.
Heavy security at court’s premises
Earlier, heavy security presence had greeted the premises of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) ahead of the court’s verdict on Wednesday.
As early as 07:00 a.m., there were security operatives in and around the Appeal Court’s premises with their vehicles positioned at strategic points.
The area is calm with journalists and others put finishing touches to coverage of the court proceedings.
