A suspected producer of adulterated drinks said to be dangerous to human consumption, one Akanimo Monday Akpan, is cooling his feet in the Akwa Ibom State Police Command pending trial in a court of law.
The suspect from Efa Ayam Village, Etinan L.G.A but residing at Factory Road, Nung Udoe, Ibesikpo Asutan L.G.A was arrested by operatives of Anti-robbery Squad.
He was caught in a case of adulteration of MAC MEG Apple Cider Vinegar, MAC MEG Noni Organic, Kombucha wines and other products.
Announcing this at a press conference on Friday at Akwa Ibom Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, the state Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara said ‘‘Relying on credible intelligence report, on 08/03/2024, at about 2100Hrs, Operatives of Anti-robbery Squad arrested one Akanimo Monday Akpan ‘M’ of Efa Ayam Village, Etinan L.G.A but residing at Factory road, Nung Udoe, Ibesikpo Asutan L.G.A who is involved in a case of Adulteration of MAC MEG Apple Cider Vinegar, MAC MEG Noni Organic, Kombucha wines and other products.

‘‘The cocking machine and some gallons of different chemicals and the adulterated products were recovered from the house and premises of the suspect. The suspect confessed to the crime and that he does not have NAFDAC registration number. The products are said to be dangerous for human consumption.’’
The Commissioner of Police stated too that ‘‘On the 08/03/2024, at about 4pm, intelligence report had it that One Akan Edet ‘m’ of No. 49 Udotung Ubo Street, Uyo was about to be set ablaze by some persons along Nsikak Eduok Avenue.
‘‘Operatives of COMPOL MONITORING UNIT, swiftly intervened and arrested him. He confessed to the crime and said his modus operandi is to use an Opay ATM card to defraud/steal money from different POS Operators. Most of his victims have identified him and the sum of N350,000 cash has been recovered as proceeds from the crime.’’
Ayilara stated that the above suspects and others would be arraigned in court for trial, assuring Akwa Ibom residents of police commitment to the provision of effective security in the State in line with international best practices.
