    Mother, Rape Suspect Of Hawker Girl Face Imprisonment

    A 16-year-old boy from Ikot Ese, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom suspected to have raped a 10-year-old hawker girl and mother of the girl are said to be facing various terms of imprisonment for their crimes.

    While the suspected rapist boy faces not less than 10 years of imprisonment, the mother who sent the under-aged girl on street hawking faces at least one year of imprisonment on conviction by a court of law.

    The Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal stated this Monday during a press conference at the State Police Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia in Uyo Local Government Area.

    Edgal said the police would prosecute the suspect while the case of the mother of the defiled girl has been sent to the Family Support Unit of Ministry of Women Affairs for prosecution.

    “Premised on a complaint on 31/7/2020 at about 4:00 pm, Detectives of Etim Ekpo Division apprehended one Godgift Joshua Uto ‘m’, aged 16yrs, of Ikot Ese, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, who allegedly defiled a 10-yr-old girl.

    “Investigation revealed that the victim who was hawking puff-puffs was lured by the suspect into a nearby bush on the pretext of buying the snacks and thereby forcefully had carnal knowledge of her,” the Commissioner said.

    The Commissioner who also rolled 328 crimes allegedly committed by other persons, announced, “Based on a complaint, detectives of Mkpat Enin Division apprehended one Pastor Mfon Lazarus Etukudo ‘m’, aged 51 yrs, who is a Pastor of a new generation Church at Ikot Ekpuk village, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area for defiling a 13-yr-old girl. Investigation revealed that the suspect on the same date at about 11:15 am waylaid and dragged the victim into his bedroom located at the Church premises and had unlawful carnal of her.

    “Following a complaint on 3/8/2020 at about 10:00 a.m, Detectives of Ibesikpo Division apprehended one Christopher Asuquo Akpan ‘m’, aged 55 yrs of Afaha Etok, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, who allegedly defiled a four-yr-old girl. The suspect has confessed to the crime.

    “On 29/7/2020 at about 5:00 am, following a complaint, Detectives of ‘C’ Division arrested one Christian Eyo Luke ‘m’, aged 34 yrs of Use Ikot Obio Offot, Uyo who allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of an 8-yr-old girl. Investigation revealed that the suspect had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor on three different occasions and repeatedly told her to conceal the affairs or else he would kill her.

    “On 24/7/2020, Detectives of Ikot Ekpene Division acted on a tip-off, arrested one Unyime Etim Ibanga ‘m’, aged 24 yrs of No. 13 Etok Eren Street, Ikot Ekpene who allegedly had an unlawful carnal knowledge of his 12-yr-old niece,” Edgal added.
