Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos Breaks Unwanted Record

Real Madrid defender, Sergio Ramos broke an unwanted record during Los Blancos’ goalless draw with Athletic Bilbao tonight.

The Spaniard was sent off for the 24th time in his career three minutes from full-time after picking up his second yellow card of the game.

The Real skipper picked up his first caution on the 11th minute for catching Raul Garcia with a flailing arm.

And he similarly collided with Aritz Aduriz four minutes from time to be given his marching orders.

The red card was Ramos’ 19th in La Liga, making him the most sent off player in the competition’s history.

He was previously tied with Pablo Alfaro and Xavi Aguado on 18 dismissals.

His latest early shower came on a frustrating evening for Zinedine Zidane’s side.

League-leaders Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw by Celta Vigo earlier in the day, so Real had the chance to close the eight-point gap to the top.

But they passed up the opportunity as Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo both struck the post.

The stalemate piled the pressure on boss Zidane who is having a difficult season following their title-winning campaign last year.

Real sit fourth in the table, behind Barca, Valencia and Atletico Madrid.

Zidane’s side returned to action against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday (7.45pm).

But Ramos’ one-match suspension will be served when Los Blancos host Sevilla next Saturday.
