Amid gruesome killings in Akwa Ibom State, Senator Bassey Akpan has asked security agencies in the state to uncover those behind the murder of one of his closest allies and supporters, Chief Bassey Emah.
An indigene of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, Emah, popularly known as “Emma B,” was shot dead in Ewet Housing Estate in Uyo during a meeting of Hope Waddell Training Institution (HOWAD), Calabar Old Boys Association on Sunday, February 13.
The Senator who represents Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District said the death of Bassey, must not be glossed over or swept under the carpet, describing the murder as “one killing too many.”

Akpan, who is a PDP governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, in a statement Wednesday, said, “Without leaning on any conspiracy theory, I hereby charge the security agencies to, as a matter of urgency, do all within their powers to unravel the circumstances surrounding the needless murder of Emma B.
”The perpetrators of this heinous crime, no matter their status in the society, must be brought to account and soon too,” he declared.
The Senator regretted that the killing of Emah would deprive his family of sustainable means of livelihood.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources Upstream recalled that two of his supporters previously attacked were Mr. Augustine Ekanem from Ibiono Ibom, who was killed in a filling station in Uyo; and Mr. Idongesit Ezekiel from Essien Udim, who luckily escaped death but sustained injuries from gunshots.
Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom police have confirmed the killing of Chief Bassey Emah, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
“We received a report that gunmen killed Emah,’’ SP Odiko MacDon, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Uyo.
The police spokesman said that investigation into the killing had begun and gave the assurance that the perpetrators would be fished out to face justice.
“Investigation is ongoing; in no distant time, I believe that the perpetrators will be brought to book,’’ MacDon said.
