After 28 days at the Ikot Ekpene Correctional Centre, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, Wednesday, regained freedom following the bail granted him by the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The Senator popularly known as OBA is representing Uyo Senatorial District in the National Assembly was granted bail on health grounds pending the determination of the appeal.
Albert was sentenced to 42 years imprisonment on December 1, 2022 for corruption by Justice Agatha A. Okeke of the Federal High Court, Uyo.

Albert was dragged before the court by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for receiving six exotic cars worth N204 million from a contractor of the Akwa Ibom State Government, Jide Omokore, while he served as State Commissioner for Finance under the Godswill Akpabio administration.
After being granted bail on Wednesday, the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) wrote on his official Facebook page: “In every situation, God has something to say.
It’s all about God. That same God.”
