A survivor of cult attack from Inen community, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State said he escaped death by whiskers, after six bullets were extracted from his head.

Elder Friday Ufenang said to have been shot on the head in by suspected cultists allegedly belonging disbanded Debam and Iceland confraternities recalled that on admission into hospital he survived on oxygen for the first three days.

“The Lord Jesus Christ saved my life. I survived through oxygen in the first three days. I was unconscious. I never knew myself again. But succour came my way through intensive medical care.

“Over six bullets were extracted from my head. I still feel pains on my head .The problem I have now is lack of money to undergo necessary medical tests and surgeries to remove remaining bullets from my head.  I know I would survive,” he affirmed.

Ufenang , a retired primary school teacher was shot by suspected cultists on Sunday during early morning vestry prayer in a church at Inen Ikot Esse was rushed to University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Speaking to our correspondent at the Emergency Ward of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo (UUTH) on Sunday , Ufenang said his pastor and president of Solid Rock Kingdom Church, Apostle John Okoriko paid initial N150,000 for treatment.

Continuing, Ufenang said he was the first victim attacked by the cultists before Mrs. Choice Etuk John, another victim receiving treatment in the same hospital.

He said the wife of the state Governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel through the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet settled the hospital bill of female victim in the same hospital, though nobody drew attention of her to his plight.

“I thank Mrs. Udom Emmanuel for paying the hospital bill for the widow. My wife was invited to collect a package from Her Excellency last week. This means that if somebody had told her that the man who was shot in the church in Inen community was receiving treatment in the same hospital, I know the governor’s wife would have extended her helping hand to me. But nobody told her about my condition,” he cried.

“Please, tell her Excellency that I am suffering here. My bill is not paid and they stopped my treatment waiting for me to pay before they commence another phase of treatment. I know she has a generous heart. Please tell her to come to my rescue,” he begged.

The wife of the victim, Mrs Itoro Ufenang said the burden of staying in hospital was becoming unbearable, and pleaded with the wife of Governor Udom Emmanuel to render financial assistance to enable the doctors to continue in the treatment.

“Last week, I received a package from her Excellency when she invited displaced persons to come. There was no chance to talk to her because of heavy security. Please, beg her to come tour rescue,” she said.
