    Slain Policeman Given Farewell Rites

    The serene environment at the Cemetery in Use Offot, Uyo Local Government Area became agitated as friends, siblings and colleagues of slain police officer, Odudu Monday Davis wailed and mourned uncontrollably when his remains were lowered into the re-dug grave.

    The 34-year-old Corporal Davis was killed on May 30, 2017 at Akim Police Station, Calabar in Cross River State while on official during an altercation between members of Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy.

    Before his remains were buried at the cemetery, members of the Nigeria Police Force, Calabar command had mounted a guard of honour and fired 21 gunshots to bid their departed colleague final farewell.

    In an interview with straightnews, wife of the slain policeman, Itoro lamented over the sudden death of her husband by the Nigerian Navy some months ago, and appealed to the Federal Government to offer her a job so that she would be able to take care of her little child.

    Later, Straightnews had to trail Elder Monday Davis Udo, father of the deceased who is also a retired civil servant to his residence in Ikot Oku Idio in Uyo. He said he was distraught on hearing about the untimely death of his son three days after the incident.

    Udo who is blind expressed sorrow over the avalanche of tragedies befalling his family as five of the nine children had died in mysterious circumstances.

    He said though his son fulfilled his desire in failing to join the police force during his youthful days, he was sad in the dastardly manner his son was mowed down by a member of the Nigerian Navy, and appealed to the government to pay compensation to them for use in catering for the bereaved family as the deceased was their financial supporter.

     

    Madam Ime Monday Davis, mother of the slain policeman looking ailing could not control her tears on when news of the untimely death of her son was broken to her three days.

    Mrs. Davis who said though Odudu as the fourth child in the family had died, she would not ask God to revenge his assassins for causing her family to cry appealing to the government to take care of the bereaved family.

    Cpl Odudu hailed from Afaha Obong in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and is survived by aged parents-father and mother; wife, daughter and four siblings.
