Police have arrested two suspected kidnappers along the Adani/Nimbo axis in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State where hoodlums have continued to abduct travellers and rape women almost on a daily basis.

Last week, three relations including one Mehodus Okwo and another trader who was simply identified as Assorted, were kidnapped at Abi, Ugbene, near Adani when they went to sell ogogoro (locally brewed gin) in the market.  Initially, three persons including Methodus, Assorted and his brother were kidnapped but the third person was allowed to go home and inform his parents about the development.  However, the police said their operatives raided the dreaded Malaysian Forest along the Nimbo- Adani Road where kidnap victims were always taken to and sometimes killed and arrested two notorious kidnappers on their wanted list.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu, said “The state police command are making significant progress in the ongoing onslaught against criminal elements within Nimbo/Adani axis of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State with the earlier raiding of identified notorious Malaysia Forest… where some arrests of notorious armed robbery/kidnappers and murder suspects who are now helping the operatives in their investigations were made.

“The operatives through intelligence information over the past weekend, nabbed another two notorious and deadly suspected kidnap/cult group kingpins who have been on the wanted list of the command’s operatives over their nefarious activities.

“Suspects who gave their names as Jonathan Okeagu and Simon Enejere, all of Umuasa Village, Ugbene Ajima of Uzouwani Local Government Area of the state were nabbed by operatives at Nimbo with two suspected stolen motorcycles and a Tiger Generator.

“Further intelligence information gathered by the operatives revealed that suspect Jonathan Okeagu was once arrested, charged to court  and later remanded in prison custody for offences ranging from cult related issues and other vices as well as having serious links with suspected kidnappers within the area and its environs.

“Full-scale investigations have commenced into their alleged nefarious activities as the state command have vowed to sustain the tempo of the onslaught against criminal elements within the axis and environs.”
