Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has charged Igbo youths to stop bemoaning the marginalisation of Ndigbo and resorting to violence.

Uzodinma, who stated this at the presentation of his book on the title “Reflections on the Igbo question,” in Owerri, the state capital on Saturday, further asked them to discard the Biafra agitation and embrace opportunities in Nigeria.

“What I have simply set out in this book is for our youths to appreciate the opportunities before them and embrace such instead of bemoaning the marginalisation of Ndigbo and resorting to violence, which is self-defeat,” the governor said.

Rather, he urged Igbo youths to leverage on technology, trade and commerce to “dominate Nigeria and dictate the pace of development.”

“I don’t want our youths to think that somebody is holding down their destiny. I also don’t want them to continue to be frustrated by the deliberate policies of exclusion,” Uzodinma added.

This comes amidst agitation for secession in South East region, which has heightened since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in 2015, leading to violent attacks on public facilities in the region and the killing of security personnel.

The re-arrest and detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has worsened the situation, making Buhari more unpopular in the region.
