Tension is mounting as 100 gunmen suspected to be members of the Tiv militia from Benue state allegedly attacked Kadarko community, Keana local government area of Nasarawa in the early hours of Sunday, January 28, resulting in the disappearance of eight persons and death of 73 cows.
The chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Nasarawa chapter, Muhammed Hussaini, said that the gunmen attacked the village located between Benue and Nasarawa states, shooting sporadically.
The gunmen also reportedly injured many other cows and rustled over 200 others before returning to Benue state.
Daily Trust reports that MACBAN has called on all the affected herders to remain calm as government and security operatives were working to ensure that the perpetrators faced the full wrath of the law.
When our reporter contacted, DPS Idrisu Kennedy, the Nasarawa state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the attack, saying no life was lost but six people went missing and four have been found alive while two Fulani herders are still missing.
Kennedy said: “As I am talking to you we are still on our way from the place where the incident happened.”
