Fourteen months after getting nod to operate, Topfaith University in Mkpatak, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State matriculated its 104 pioneer students on Saturday.

The students took matriculation oath and were admitted into four faculties of the young university which commenced its maiden 2021/2022 academic session in October 2021.

The university is among the 20 private universities in Nigeria approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

The matriculation was followed by the commissioning of the Udom Emmanuel Block housing the university’s Management and Social Sciences Faculty.

The faculty boasts of the Udom Emmanuel Accounting Laboratory, a world-class financial service and research facility.

At the brief ceremony, Akwa Ibom State governor Udom Emmanuel represented by his deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo lauded the leadership of the University for its creativity, hard work and foresight that crowned the success story of tertiary institution.

Expressing appreciation over the high quality infrastructure, the Governor said Topfaith University would “soon become one of the best in the world.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the institution, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, had pledged the University Management’s commitment to innovating premium quality standards in tertiary education.

He explained that the decision to name the Accounting facility in honour of the governor was informed by Governor Emmanuel’s “education-friendly disposition”.

The governor’s representative planted the “Topfaith Iroko tree” to commemorate the establishment of the university before joining the procession to the Matriculation Arena.

Addressing the matriculating students of Topfaith University, Mr Moses Ekpo charged them to replicate the values of the University in their daily lives.

He said,”We (Akwa Ibom State government) are ready to partner your university and be part of this unfolding greatness. You must turn away from anti-social behaviour to explore your full potentials for development.”

Also speaking, the proprietor of the university, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham saidthe university’s three dimensional thrust is anchored to Discover, Develop and Deploy talents.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Ebewo harped on the functionality of the academic offerings of the institution, and stressed the need for students to embrace the ethical standards promoted by the university towards the attainment of social progress.

Highlights of the first Topfaith University matriculation were the formal installation of HRM Edidem Raymond T. Inyang, Paramount Ruler of Onna LGA as the Chancellor of Topfaith University, and presentation of the ARISE fund for research and goodwill messages.

The present course profile is to be expanded to accommodate other academic disciplines in 2023 while a post- graduate School is earmarked for the second phase in 2028.
