Two newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police of Cross River State extraction were among the 12 decorated by the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun on Thursday.
They are Mr. Emmanuel Ekot Effiom, a former Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, hails from Nko Yakurr LGA of Cross River and Mr. Patrick Ogon Edung, a former Commissioner of Police, Courses Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, hails from Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River.

Other decorated AIGs are Ogundele Joshua Ayodeji, former CP Niger State; former CP Badru Banji Lawal, Deputy Commandant, Police Academy Kano; Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka, former CP Benue State; Suleiman Yusuf; former CP Taraba State; Idowu Owohunwa, former CP Lagos State and Rhoda Adetutu Olofu, former CP PAP Western Ports Lagos.
The rest are CP Godwin N. Aghaulor, CMDT Police College Kaduna; Stanley Kanayo-Chukwu Ude, former CP Intelligence and Investigation, Interpol Abuja; Longe Kehinde Patrick, former CP Osun State and Ndu Anene, former CP Admin Research and Planning Force Headquarters.

The 19 newly promoted Commissioners of Police who were decorated are DCP Shehu Kabir Abubakar; DCP Lawal Babatunde Ayodeji; DCP Shelleng Umaru Yusuf; DCP Emmanuel Agene; DCP Alonyenu Francis Iduh; DCP Vungmoh S. Kwaimo; DCP Danjuma Aboki; DCP Jude Maduekwujolachi Azuka; DCP Dan-Sabo Idi; DCP Ibitoye Rufus Olajide and DCP Adamu Ngojin Isa.
At the ceremony took place at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Egbetokun lauded their dedication and hard work, which he said earned them the promotion.
The newly decorated officers, according to the IG, have demonstrated exceptional commitment to maintaining law and order in their duty posts and, as such, their new ranks symbolizes added responsibilities and the trust placed in them to continue leading by example.
Egbetokun urged the officers to continue to exhibit the core values of service, sacrifice, and selflessness in the discharge of their duties.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reads: “The IG congratulates all the promoted officers and encourages them to redouble their efforts in service to our great nation.
He also appreciates the Police Service Commission (PSC) for their thorough and objective evaluation of the officers’ performances, with the assurance of improved collaborative efforts to deepen excellence and uphold the NPF’s duty to serve and protect the people of Nigeria.”
The Force Headquarters said the event followed the approval by the Police Service Commission of the NPF recommendation for the promotion of the 31 AIGs and CPs, as well as 5,687 other dedicated senior officers within the Nigeria Police Force.
The occasion was attended by the Governors of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Kogi, and Lagos States; Dame Patience Ebele Jonathan, IG Usman Baba (retd.) and his wife; the Senator representing Kogi Central, and royal fathers from Kogi and Lagos States.
