Udom’s Aide Tasks A’Ibom Pupils to see academic pursuit as Priority
Public Primary School pupils in Akwa Ibom State have been charged as Nigeria’s future leaders to see their academic pursuit as a priority.
The Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Projects Monitoring, Amos Udom handed down the charge Monday while presenting hundreds of Indorama Fertiliser branded exercise books to public primary schools in Ukanafun Local Government Area and beyond.
Addressing the pupils of Government Primary School, Ikot Oku Usung, Udom who is also an Elder in Methodist Church Nigeria said he facilitated bringing the exercise books numbering more than 2,500 to the state to complement the free and compulsory education policy of Governor Emmanuel administration.
The Governor’s aide, who had week earlier donated about 1,500 copies of the exercise books to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), explained that he used his relationship and contacts at Indorama Fertiliser Company in Eleme, Rivers State, to attract the exercise books to public schools in Akwa Ibom.
Udom accompanied by Mr. Unen Udo Abraham also presented scores of the branded exercise books to pupils of Government Primary School, Ikot Akai, still in Ukanafun Local Government Area.
He equally made special donations to high academic-performed pupils who clinched top positions during the last terminal examinations and challenged others to emulate them in future examinations by topping their respective classes.
Responding, the Head Teacher of Government Primary School, Ikot Oku Usung, Mr. Okon Umanah thanked the Governor’s aide for the gesture but called on others to emulate the good gesture.
Also, Mr. E.S. Akpan, the head teacher of Government Primary School, Ikot Akai, thanked Udom for the gesture and asked God to bless him.
Meanwhile, a representative of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs Abasiekeme Essien, had received copies of the exercise books for onward distribution to selected schools in the state.
Among schools that have taken delivery of the exercise books are Government Primary School, Ikot Akpan Nsek in Oruk Anam Local Government Area and Government Primary School, Nsekhe Community in Ukanafun.
At Government Primary School, Nsekhe, Udom charged the pupils to make judicious use of the books by taking their studies seriously.
“I encourage you to do more, read your books and pass your exams in flying colours. I will personally monitor your progress in the next term results. If you impress me by scoring higher and taking prominent positions you will become my friend and I will support you with more gifts”, he assured.
Responding, the school headmaster Elder Kingsley Udom lauded the effort of the Governor’s aide, noting that the gesture has rekindled the fire of educational aspiration among the pupils in the community.
