The Governing Board of the University of Uyo Teaching hospital has pledged to work hard to reposition the hospital for efficient service delivery.
Senator Salihu Hussain Egye, its board Chairman speaking Thursday with newsmen after the inaugural meeting of the fifth board and inspection of facilities in the hospital in Uyo, promised to improve medical service delivery and staff training in the hospital.
The chairman who acknowledged paucity of funds facing the hospital evident in the general state of the hospital, and vowed to tackle inadequate funding and poor staff attitude plaguing the institution.
“I feel it is important that we conduct the affairs of the board in such a way that will improve the hospital in terms of medical care delivery, training of our medical students and workers.
“Generally, the environment needs more attention and so far, the acting Chief Medical Director has done a lot to improve sanitary condition because I learnt that before he took over, it was worse than what I saw.
“We will try and see what we can do despite the fact that there are no funds. The hospital is trying to grapple with delivery of service and training, and at the same time paucity of funds.
“This issue is not restricted to only this hospital; it is the general attitude of Nigerians towards government services and the job they have been assigned to do. So, we intend to grapple this issue headlong,” he said.
The board chairman said that government would not abandon the hospital being the only tertiary health institution in state.
