The Nigerian Army has again twisted its evidence by admitting to bringing live bullets to Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020 during the ENDSARS protest.
Cable News Network had a few days ago aired an investigation that showed empty cartridges left by Nigerian soldiers after allegedly shooting at the protesters, and the bullets were said to be produced in Siberia.
At a press conference a day after, Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, accused CNN of lying and harped on the need to sanction the station.
Brigadier-General Ibrahim Taiwo, Commander of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army confirmed this while being cross examined by Olumide Fusika, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) before the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Saturday November 21.
Taiwo who said the live bullets was for the protection of the army team that was deployed to restore order in the area, averred that the soldiers who opened fire used blank bullets.
He also stated that their colleagues with live rounds were on ground to protect from suspected hoodlums who fomented trouble.
