The former National Legal Adviser of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Emmanuel Enoidem, has given reasons he would not join Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno in defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Enoidem who had earlier spoken on Inside Politics on BDTV, BusinessDay Television programme confirmed this to Straightnews on a WhatsApp on Sunday, June 1 emphasised that his stance was based on values, not convenience.
‘‘Political parties should serve as ideological homes not mere platforms for personal gain and political consistency and discipline are essential for strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

“They are harassing many people, and the APC is using intimidation to pressure people into joining ahead of 2027. I would support Eno Umo, the governor who has a strong covenant with the people of Akwa Ibom in key areas,” the outspoken politician explained.
The former Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal pointed out that Eno was one of the best governors in the country presently, saying that he would continue to support his administration even while he was in APC.
“He is one of the best governors we have had in the country, but I don’t think everybody should yield to that intimidation.
“2027, I will support Eno. That’s important to our people. He has done well in key areas of development, except he changed and is not performing, because everybody who goes to APC fails. They say failure is part of the gene in the APC.”
The PDP chieftain said he had advised Governor Eno to remain in the PDP and continue his development strides in Akwa Ibom, stressing that it was his choice to move any political parties he chooses.
According to him, “What would happen when the governor defects we would now reassess the party, most people aren’t happy with the governor defection, why would we be happy with a person bringing development into the state.”
A one-time PDP treasurer in the state, who condemned the rising trend of political defections in Nigeria, called them a dangerous erosion of party ideology and democratic integrity.
