2021 GUS: Akwa Ibom son, 2 contestants sent home

An Akwa Ibom son and two other contestants of the 2021 Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS) have been evicted from the survival reality show.

They are Mfon Mikel from Akwa Ibom who had beef with another Akwa Ibom contestant; Olayinka Omoya and Gerald Odeka.

Omoya, the 26-year-old artist and content creator, became the first contestant to be sent packing from the show on Saturday after a task.

Mikel and Odeka were thereafter evicted on Sunday – leaving 15 contestants remaining in the race for the show’s N50 million grand prize.

The show, currently in its 12th season, is making its return after four-year hiatus.

The organisers had earlier unveiled a total of 20 contestants for this year’s edition of the survival programme.

But in a new twist, Gideon Okeke, the show host, had said only 16 of the housemates are eligible for the jungle while the remaining four were identified as wildcards.

The organisers had revealed that two of the wildcards with the highest votes would be opportune to return to the jungle.

Osasere Agbonile and Odudu Otu were then added to the 16 contestants after polling the highest votes.

The contestants — camped in a jungle — are expected to compete against each other and the wild in quest of a secret treasure that would offer fame and wealth to the last person standing.

The Gulder Ultimate Search premiered in 2004 and has enjoyed widespread acceptance since then.
