Urges detractors to give peace a chance

Enjoins people to vote for Akpabio

A renowned socio-political group in Akwa Ibom State, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Amalgamated Front has hailed Udom Ekpoudom’s decision to support and work for the success of Senator Godswill Akpabio’s senatorial ambition in the Saturday’s National Assembly election.

Ekpoudom, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police who lost to Akpabio after a protracted legal battle which ended in the Supreme Court recently collapsed his political structure for the former Akwa Ibom governor and promised him maximum support.

In a press statement signed by Mr Effiong Effiong Ekpo, Barr. Akaninyene Ekpoudom and Mrs Rose Udoikpong on behalf of others, the group advised detractors of the new deal whom they described as renegades in APC to give peace a chance.

According to them, “Rtd. DIG Ekpoudom is a trained officer who stood nomination and only invited administrators and supporters not as hardline dictators with undemocratic tendencies they are demonstrating but people who have respect for the rule of law.”

The group stated, “They have not only chosen to be unlawful, they are fueling divisiveness and destroying the age-old oneness that Annang as a tribe so dearly cherishes. They are planning to plant division between Annang people of old Abak Division and that of old Ikot Ekpene Division without regard to the truth that Annang has only one ancestral origin in Ebibit, Afaha Obong. When one uses politics to destroy his origin, one wonders what legacy such person intends to leave behind.’’

The group regretted that those who should know better are now busy pushing the puerile argument of Abak 5 using distorted statistics, fallacious history and unsupportive arguments to hoodwink the public.

‘‘We are happy that our people know better and will in no circumstance trade the surfeit opportunities that would accrue to the people of Akwa Ibom State through Akpabio in the Senate to choosing a rookie and greenhorn to satisfy the frivolity of turn,” they emphasised.

The group commended Rtd. DIG Ekpoudom for relegating self interest and elevating the general good of the people of the senatorial district, stressing that posterity will remember him as a man who stood for the truth when it mattered most.

The socio-political group lauded the wide acceptability of Senator Godswill Akpabio as shown during the ward tour of the senatorial district, lauding the overwhelming acceptability of the former governor among his people have put paid to the lies being bandied by his opponents.

Describing Senator Godswill Akpabio as a big asset to the senatorial district and Akwa Ibom State, the group urged the people to massively vote for him to return to the 10th Senate during the Saturday’s election by shunning the decision of a few misinformed members of the party in Abak 5 axis.
