Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke and Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, also known as Davido have diverged over support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

While Adeleke reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s second term bid, Davido declared that he currently has no preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, possibly no alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He re-endorsed the President on Sunday while delivering his victory speech following his re-election as governor of Osun State.

The governor, who commended the President for what he described as his support for a free and fair governorship election in the state, noted that his decision to support Tinubu for a second term in 2027 is based on his belief that the President, as a Yoruba man from the South-West.

“At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr President, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strong support for a free and fair election,” Adeleke said.

The governor described Tinubu as “a son of Osun State” and used the occasion to renew his endorsement of the President’s 2027 presidential bid.

“Mr President is a son of Osun State and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for second term in the 2027 presidential election,” he said.

Adeleke had earlier stated that Tinubu called him to congratulate him on his victory before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally announced the final result.

The governor’s renewed endorsement comes after he secured re-election in Saturday’s governorship election, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

INEC declared Adeleke winner after he polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

No Presidential Candidate for 2027 election- Davido

However, the music icon admitted that he would maintain his active political involvement during the upcoming 2027 presidential contest.

Responding to questions during an interview on News Central TV on Tuesday about political endorsements and addressing his uncle, Governor Adeleke’s declaration of support for President Bola Tinubu, Davido clarified that his personal political convictions remain independent.

“My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for Tinubu, but for me, I’m not propelled to support anybody. I personally haven’t seen anybody,” he stated.

Recalling his past political engagements, the artiste noted that while he had previously supported opposition figures and cross-party alignments, his current stance remains uncommitted.

“In the past, yes, I’ve supported Atiku before when we were in PDP, and I supported in 2015 when APC first did the merger; my late uncle Isiaka Adeleke (Serubawon) was part of the APC, I campaigned then,” he said.

He, however, emphasised that his political position ahead of 2027 remains completely open, except for the ruling party.

“Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, but it’s not going to be APC. Everybody should have their choice,” Davido added

Davido’s comments come amid heightened public attention following his prominent role during the Osun State election cycle, where he mobilised voters and advocated for transparent election results.
