A two-year-old boy from Yandaki town, Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State, has died after his stepmother allegedly bathed him with hot water.
The 21-year-old stepmother, Samsiya, who bathed the boy, Ahmed with hot water, is in police net.
Samsiya was said to be a rival to the boy’s mother, who had packed out of their matrimonial home, leaving the boy with Samsiya and his father, Hayatu.
Police Spokesperson, Katsina Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the development to journalists in Katsina, said: “Samsiya has been picked up and arraigned before a competent court. The court will determine her innocence or otherwise.”
Hospital sources revealed that Ahmed was referred to the hospital on September 5 from Yandaki Primary Health Care Centre, where he was initially admitted following injuries he sustained from hot water poured on him by his step-mother.
A source at the General Hospital said: “Ahmed suffered 90 degrees burns. The hot water affected him right from the head to the toes, but our people tried their best before we lost him.”
Ahmed died about three weeks ago at Katsina General Hospital after doctors tried unsuccessfully to save his life, which made the Police to step in and arrest Samsiya.
It was gathered that Samsiya was arraigned before Senior Magistrate, Falile Dikko, but that nothing could be done on her case as she appeared to be mentally unstable during trial.
