President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for unity, discipline, and renewed commitment within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party held its 4th Elective National Convention in Abuja.

Speaking Friday at the convention held at Eagle Square, Abuja, the President described the gathering as a defining moment for both the party and Nigeria’s democracy, urging members to strengthen their collective resolve and recommit to the ideals that birthed the APC.

Tinubu emphasised that unity remains the party’s greatest strength, warning that political parties often fail when personal ambition overrides collective interest and discipline.

“Our greatest strength has never been in our size or numbers, but our unity,” Tinubu said, stressing that the convention must send a clear message that the APC is strong, united, and ready for the future.

He reiterated that the APC was not formed merely as a vehicle for electoral victory, but as a platform for national transformation aimed at improving governance, strengthening institutions, and expanding opportunities for all Nigerians.

Addressing concerns about Nigeria’s democratic space, Tinubu said the party does not seek to establish a one-party state, adding that credible opposition is essential for strengthening governance and refining public policy.

The President also defended recent amendments to the Electoral Act, noting that the process followed constitutional procedures and legislative scrutiny, including public hearings.

Highlighting his administration’s reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Tinubu acknowledged that rebuilding Nigeria requires difficult decisions but insisted that ongoing sacrifices would yield long-term economic benefits.

According to him, improvements in infrastructure, fiscal reforms, foreign exchange stability, and increased investor confidence, while noting that inflation has declined and economic activity has expanded in recent months.

The President also identified ongoing challenges in the power sector, including debts and ageing infrastructure, revealing plans to establish a Grid Asset Management Company to strengthen electricity supply.

Tinubu further called for increased participation of youth and women in politics, urging the party to create more opportunities for leadership and decision-making across all levels.

He appealed to party members to conduct themselves with integrity throughout the convention, stressing that internal contests should not divide the party.

“At the end of this convention, our party must be the victor. We are one family, marching forward with clarity, discipline, and purpose,” he said.

The President commended party leaders, governors, and members of the convention planning committee for their roles in organising the event, urging newly elected officials to lead with humility, integrity, and vision.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio commended President Bola Tinubu, saying he has sight and vision which have transformed Nigeria in many ways.

Meanwhile, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Chairman of APC 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, also spoke during the convention.
He heads the 73-member Central Coordination Committee for the 2026 National Convention of APC.
Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, serves as Vice Chairman, while the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, is Secretary of the Committee.

No fewer than 8,433 delegates, 31 governors, and members of his cabinet are participating in the 2026 national convention.
