    765 NYSC Members Test Positive For COVID-19- DG

    A total of 765 members of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the current stream have tested positive for COVID-19 in the orientation camps.

    The Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu announced this Monday at the PTF COVID-19 press briefing in Abuja.

    “Out of 22,119 @officialscng prospective corp members tested in orientation camps in the current stream, 765 have tested positive for  #COVID-19 using the new antigen-based rapid test kits (RDTs) in Nigeria,” he said.

    The Health Minister, Dr. Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire ”announced a new patient handbook for home care of #COVID-19 cases, within a state’s care system.

    ”NCDC continues to work with relevant government institutions & partners to respond to the ongoing pandemic.’’

    Meanwhile, NCDC says ”On the 25th of January 2021, 1430 new confirmed cases and 3 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

    According to the public health agency ”The 1430 new cases are reported from 19 states- Lagos (744), Plateau (100), Oyo (77), FCT (75), Nasarawa (74), Katsina (48), Edo (42), and Kano (41).’’

    Others are Enugu (37), Rivers (34), Ogun (33), Kwara (32), Niger (28), Ebonyi (27), Kaduna (26), Borno (12), Yobe (10), Ekiti (5), and Gombe (1).

    ”Till date, 122996 cases have been confirmed, 98359 cases have been discharged and 1507 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory

    ”A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities,’’ it stated.

    Moreover, NCDC said ”Our discharges today include 435 community recoveries in Lagos State and 184 community recoveries in Kaduna State managed in line with guidelines.

    “Genomic sequencing done in collaboration with @acegid has identified one #COVID-19 positive case in Nigeria with B.1.1.7, the variant first identified in UK.

    ”We continue to work with partners to strengthen genomic surveillance capacity as part of response activities,” it added.
