The out-gone Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura, arrested by a combined team of the Police and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), is being detained at the SARS Headquarters, Abuja.

The detention follows his sack by Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, the Acting President, for “breaching national security” particularly the siege on the National Assembly complex by operatives of DSS.

A press release by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Acting President, on Tuesday, directed Daura to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.

News about the termination of Daura’s appointment sparked wild jubilations at the DSS headquarters, Abuja.

Daily Trust reported that he was ferried away in three Police vans including two Toyota Hilux vehicles and a jeep.

While the State House reporters were awaiting his exit from the office of the Vice President, Daura was taken away via the backdoor.

Mr. Daura had retired from the service before he was recalled on July 2, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari to head the organisation.

Aged 65, and born in Daura, Katsina State on August 5, 1953, he retired from the SSS in 2013, after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.

From Daura in Katsina state like President Buhari, he joined the service in 1982 and was a one-time deputy director, Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He also served as state director at various times in many states of the Federation including Kano, Sokoto, Edo, Lagos, Osun and Imo.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has named an acting Director-General of Department of State  Service.

He is Matthew Seyeifa, an indigene of Bayelsa State who until the appointment was the Director of Operations in the headquarters and would have retired this month.
