Grand Cereals Ltd, producers of Vital feeds based in Jos, Plateau State, is set to provide insurance policy to fish farmers in the country with not less than 1000 fish in their ponds to cover incidental losses.
General Manager, Sales and Marketing of the organization, Mr Kola Adelabu, who gave the hint at a one day seminar for fish farmers at Utte Cluster Fish farming, near Benin City, Edo State, said that the company will insure farmers that uses its products and pay the premium on their behalf with the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation, NAIC.
He said, “We have an insurance policy for fish farmers and farmers that have up to 1000 fish in their ponds will benefit from the policy. We are doing this because, God forbids, if bad thing happens, they will be able to be in business.
“We are here in Utte Cluster Fish Farm according to our tradition of providing technical support to our fish farmers, enhancing their capacity of self sufficiency in food production and water system management in case there is shortage of water.
“As friends to Nigerian fish farmers, we will continue to give tips to them, offer them technical support such recycling of water system, stand still water management, temper of water among others.”
During the seminar, the farmers were lectured on several ways of modern fish farming, feeding methods to increase the productivity as well increase the nutritional needs of Nigerians.
