After successfully booking their Cameroon AFCON 2019 ticket, the Super Eagles arrived at Asaba, the Delta State capital on Sunday, November 18, on a chartered flight.

The three-time African champions qualified for the AFCON 2019 tourney by holding South Africa to a 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was on hand to receive the team and congratulated them for a job well done after booking their place in Africa’s biggest showpiece.

Senator Okowa described the first international flight into the Asaba International Airport as momentous as it brought back the Super Eagles from South Africa after qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Tam Brisbe on Sunday, November 18, he stated “This is momentous bearing in mind that the flight successfully took the Super Eagles to South Africa and came back without hitches.

“It is more gratifying to note that the Super Eagles trained at the Stephen Keshi Stadium before leaving for South Africa through the Asaba Airport; they went to South Africa and qualified for Cameroon 2019,” the governor said.

The green and white will play a friendly against Uganda on Tuesday, November 20, who also made it through with a 1-0 win over Cape Verde.

Gernot Rohr became first coach after the late Stephen Keshi won it in 2013 to qualify Nigeria to an AFCON tournament.
