Chelle Speaks
Super Eagles manager, Eric Chelle has provided an explanation regarding why Nigeria was able to secure a 3-3 draw against Russia during Tuesday evening’s international friendly match.
Nigeria established an early advantage during the first half but encountered difficulties in defending against the European opponents, who reversed the result to 3-1 shortly after the break.
Nevertheless, the Super Eagles demonstrated remarkable resilience through a late-stage comeback, scoring two in the closing stages of the match to secure a draw.
During the post-match press conference, Chelle acknowledged that Russia demonstrated superior performance during the concluding moments of the first half and the opening phase of the second half.
“This represents a draw. We achieved a significant moment at the beginning of the first half. They possessed substantial moments at the conclusion of the first half,” Chelle stated.
“This explains their two goals. In the opening of the second half, the situation remained comparable,” he said.
The Super Eagles manager attributed tactical modifications, particularly concerning the forward positions, to Nigeria’s successful return to competitive standing in the match.
“We discovered a resolution because tactically we implemented adjustments regarding our strikers.
“During the concluding phase of the second half, they failed to identify a resolution, and consequently we achieved two goals through transitional play,” he elaborated.
The Malian strategist commended the team’s second-half execution and recognized the players’ commitment and perseverance in accomplishing the comeback.
“The second-half performance of my team demonstrated considerable quality. I expressed appreciation for my players.
“And as I communicated to my colleague on my left side, the decisive factor of the match is the football itself,” he concluded.
The former Mali coach will regard the avoidance of defeat against the European opponents favorably, particularly following Nigeria’s disappointing 0-3 defeat to Guinea-Bissau
