It rained goals galore on the final day of the Premier League campaign, which saw three African superstars end at the top of the Golden Boot ranking, writing Premier League history.
Mohamed Salah entered the final match day of 2018/19 with two goals ahead of his closest rivals but was not able to add to his tally in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Meanwhile, his teammate Sadio netted both goals in the Reds victory, which was not enough to beat Manchester City to the title, taking his tally to 22 goals as well.
In addition, Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also netted a brace in the Gunners’ 3-1 win at Burnley, to move level both Salah and Mane.
For the first time in history, three Africans share the league Golden Boot, while Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero finished with 21 strikes in fourth place after netting the important equaliser in his side’s 4-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Salah, who won the title with 32 strikes in 2017/18, becomes only the sixth player and the first African to defend his Premier League Golden Boot title – even though he has to share it with Mane and Aubameyang.
