The Akwa Starlets, Sunday, returned to the winning ways by stunning Enugu Rangers, a six-time champions 2-0 at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.

The young lads from Uyo created the upset against the 49-year-old Rangers International FC in the ongoing 2019/2020 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Femi Ajayi put Akwa Starlets ahead in the 18th minute, while Isaac George added the second a minute before the break.

With the winning streaks, Akwa Starlets occupy the fifth position on the NPFL log and have eight points from four matches.

Meanwhile, Akwa United were held to a 1-1 draw by the visiting Nasarawa United at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The home team are without a win in the league so far this season with pressure now mounting on the head coach of the side John Obuh.

Ndifreke Effiong gave Akwa United the lead from the spot in first-half stoppage time, while Abubakar Lawal equalised for Nasarawa United in the 54th minute.

Akwa United have four points from five matches and occupy the 14th position on the NPFL log.

Already, Plateau United has further underlined their 2019/20 NPFL title ambition following an impressive 3-1 away win against Delta Force in their matchday-five encounter at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Sunday, reports Completesports.com.

Delta Force took the lead from the spot through Kazie Enyinnaya in the 38th minute, but the visitors rallied back with goals from Uche Onwuasoanya, Michael Ibeh, and Ibrahim Mustapha.

Plateau United who remain the only unbeaten side in the NPFL this season top the standings with 13 points from five games.

Lobi Stars climb to the second position in the table following a 0-0 away draw against FC IfeanyiUbah in Nnewi.

Enyimba moved to third position courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 home win against Adamawa United in Aba.

Former Remo Stars forward Victor Mbaoma scored both goals for the People’s Elephant.

Rivers United also recorded an away win of the NPFL matchday-five edging out Warri Wolves 1-0 at the Warri City Stadium. Stephen Gopey netted the winner eight minutes before the break.

Wikki Tourits piled more pressure on Kano Pillars after holding the four-time champions to a barren draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Pillars who are yet to record a win in the league this season occupy bottom spot in the table on only one point.
