Drama ensued as Maryam Sanda who heard death by hanging from FCT High Court in Maitama for killing her husband attempted to flee, but the court and prison’s officials dragged her to the dock.

Justice Yusuf Halilu found the accused guilty of murder while delivering judgment on the protracted trial of Missus Sanda on Monday in the nation’s capital.

Sanda is facing trial over an allegation of killing Bilyaminu, nephew of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Haliru M. Bello.

In November 2017, the police charged Sanda for culpable homicide and sought a death penalty against the accused on two counts.

The judge stood down the matter for five minutes following the drama that ensued after the conviction was passed. She fled the dock immediately the judge convicted her for killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

However, court officials and prisons’ officials dragged her back into the dock. The judge was forced to rise after several women starting wailing in the courtroom. One of them who made an attempt to approach Maryam was ordered to be taken away by the judge.

Three Key issues in Maryam Sanda’s murder case Justice Yusuf Halilu rose for five minutes to return for sentencing.

As at the time of filing this report, Maryam was still wailing and shouting “Inna lilahi Inna roji hun,” while efforts are being made by her family and lawyer to console her.

Our reporter heard her saying, “I was fasting and praying … Ya Allah, why?” as court officials announced that the judge was about to return for sentencing.
