Akwa Ibom Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Sir Sylvester J. Ntefre, was killed by suspected kidnappers in Ikot Inyang, Ekparakwa Clan of Oruk Anam Local Government Area at about 8 a.m. Sunday, May 15.

Ntefre, a former PDP Chairman, Oruk Anam Chapter also served as Sole Administrator in Abak, Etim Ekpo and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas in the state.

A seasoned local government  administrator, Ntefre who had served as Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Local Government Service Commission was Catholic Knight.

One anonymous source told Straightnews Sunday evening that Ntefre had dressed up, came out to go to church unknown to him that the suspected gunmen had laid ambush for him.

”Not long, they dashed into his compound in Ikot Inyang, whisked him in company of another person (name withheld) away in their black SUV jeep. As they were driving, the abductors saw policemen at Ekparakwa Junction and they diverted into nearby bush.

”Not long, their vehicle broke down. They came out and looked at the man. The deceased asked them what they wanted. Without uttering a word, the gunmen pumped bullets into Ntefre’s body and that of his friend in the bush between Ikot Inyang and Ekparakwa Junction. They escaped and abandoned their wrecked jeep,” the source narrated.

Recall that last Sunday, just a week ago, Rev, Fr. Alphonsus Eboh, the Catholic Priest of X Parish along Ekparakwa–Etinan Road was abducted and he later regained freedom after four days in the kidnappers’ den.

Three weeks ago,  Apostle John Okoriko, the General Overseer of Solid Rock Kingdom Church, who was kidnapped in his church premises, Ibekwe Akpan Nya in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

Straightnews gathered from different sources that Ekparakwa-Mkpat Enin axis is prone to kidnapping activities as many persons who are secretly kidnapped, quietly pay various ransom sums to their abductors to regain freedom.

A resident who pleaded anonymity said the killing of the party chieftain may not be unconnected with forthcoming House of Assembly party primaries while another indigene of the area who is also a PDP stalwart dispelled the rumour that it has nothing to do with politics.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon, told Daily Post that he has not received official report on the incident but promised to react once the command is briefed.

“We have not received any report on this, I’ll communicate you as soon as I am briefed,” he said.
