    Iniobong Sunday

The sleepy Ikot Andem village in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State was Monday thrown into confusion following alleged killing of the youth leader in the area ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial primaries.

Straightnews correspondent gathered that the armed hoodlums laid siege and shot at the deceased known as Comrade Ufot Job, along the spur linking the Ekparakwa-Ukanafun Highway and Ikot Udo Ossiom village.

“The late Job was riding on his motorcycle from his village, Ikot Andem, and was ambushed by suspected cultists who opened fire on him and made away with his motorcycle, leaving him dead in his pool of blood,” Akaninyene Inyang, a local resident told newsmen.

According to him, “it was too late for him to be saved because when neighbours arrived at the scene following alarm raised by witnesses, he had lost more blood from the gunshot wounds.”

Another source from the village told Straightnews that ”the suspected gunmen accosted the deceased as he was riding. They wanted to collect the motor cycle, but the youth leader struggled with them. They turned and shot at him severally until he bled and died.’’

The motorcycle stolen from the deceased, it was learnt, was an empowerment gift to him by a member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Unyime Idem.

One of the youths’ leaders, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that “the matter had been reported to the police for immediate investigation with a view to apprehending the suspects.”

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), when contacted (not Straightnews) Tuesday on telephone, could only assure that “I am in a meeting.” promising to revert, when fully briefed on the incident by the Ukanafun Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
