Some Nigerians have vented anger on the killing and burning to ashes of a member of Vigilante group by mob over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad in Lugbe, Abuja.

This is as Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto was killed and roasted by mob over alleged blasphemy.

A post on Twitter said the deceased was beaten before being burnt and an accompanying video showed a mob chanting “Allahu Akbar” around a raging fire.

“This afternoon mob has killed a guy and burnt him to ashes for blasphemy at Federal Housing Lugbe in Abuja,” the tweet said.

The deceased was said to have been a member of a vigilante group in charge of a market at the Federal Housing Estate in the area.

The vigilante group had attempted to arrest some people wandering suspiciously around the market in the early hours of the day, but the suspects begged to be released in the name of Allah.

The deceased reportedly opposed the release of the suspects and said ”Even if in the name of God’’ comments interpreted to be blasphemous.

This led to an attack during which he was beaten and stoned to death. The remains of the deceased was subsequently burnt.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command Josephine Adeh, however, said the deceased was killed after getting into a heated argument with an Islamic cleric.

“Today 4th of June 2022 at about 13:00hrs, one Ahmad Usman, a 30 years old member of the local vigilante around Tippa garage at Federal Housing Estate in Lugbe Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), got into an argument with a Cleric (Mallam) whose name is yet unknown from the same area.

“The heated argument degenerated into an outbreak of violence that led to the murder and setting ablaze of Ahmad Usman by the enraged mob mobilised by the clergy numbering about Two hundred (200).”

No arrests have been made so far.

However, Adeh noted that the police has restored normalcy in the area adding that efforts are being made to arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have taken to Twitter to vent anger on the killing of a fellow person over alleged blasphemy.

The Mouthpiece wrote ”Islamic Extremists This Afternoon, Killed And Burnt A Guy To Ashes At Abuja Federal Housing, Lugbe. According To Those Terrorists. The Guy Blasphemed Prophet Mohammed.

Ifa Funsho said ”It happened in Sokoto It happened in Bauchi It just happened again Lugbe in Abuja. So if i’m living in the North & I speak against Prophet Muhammad. That’s how they’ll also burn me to death. Just like that. Allah must be really proud of how Muslims are spreading the Peace.

”It’s sad that Nigeria bleeds everyday, first it was Deborah, now it’s a vigilante in Lugbe that got burnt alive, please everyone should avoid having religious conversations in public since government can’t protect us we have to protect ourselves,” Its_adesh tweeted.

According to The Lord’s storyteller, ”If you want to turn behaviour into culture, ensure that there are no consequences for actions. First Deborah in Sokoto, now this Lugbe incident. Last time, it was a Christian, this time a Muslim. For the sake of our common humanity, let’s do the right thing.”

Gaius remarked ”Jesus never instructed his disciples to take arm for his defence even when he was nailed on the cross a king and more! Lugbe.”

Veeque Dami Jay narrated ”I really remembered a space on the issue of blasphemy and Islam. Most of the religious defender kept on saying “Islam is a religion of peace” yet many supported the burning of Deborah. Now, they’re burning their own brother at lugbe! So much for a religion of peace. Remain mad!”

Max said ”I was there live at Lugbe when that guy was being mobbed and roasted alive and I must say, Nigeria needs to be dissolved and Nigerian Muslims and Christians need to go their separate ways.”
