Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle has handed over 460 houses to the state chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress NLC for delivery to junior civil servants in the state.

The beneficiaries are expected to pay in 10 years with 40 percent discount from the government.

Another 1,000 housing units According to authorities will be constructed for senior civil servants

The governor is also expected to perform the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of the one thousand houses in Gusau, with the sole aim of addressing accommodation challenges of all categories of workers.

Speaking at a brief ceremony along Gidan Dawa Daza bye pass Road in Gusau, which is also where the Houses are located, Governor Bello Matawalle says the move is part of his administration’s efforts to provide permanent accommodation for civil servants in the state, on owner occupier basis.

“In addition to the provision of the completed 460 houses for junior civil servants, another 1,000 housing units will be constructed for senior civil servants across the state, I will personally perform the ground breaking ceremony for the project in Gusau,” the governor said.

He expressed dismay over the inability if many civil servants to own their Houses even after thirty five years of active service

A story, the Governor said, would be solved by his administration through the construction of befitting housing estates for the civil servants

The first and second batches of the 460 houses would be distributed to workers on the owner-occupier basis with forty percent discount of the total sum and expected to be paid in 10 years.

Governor Bello Matawalle called on the leadership of the Nigeria labour Congress to liaise with the office of the Head of Service and Directorate of labour matters to ensure justice and fairness in the allocation of the houses to benefitting civil servants.

On his part, the Zamfara Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Sani Halliru Magajin Rafin Kurya thanked the Governor for the initiative to provide accommodation to workers

Comrade Sani Halliru noted that the Matawalle’s administration has saved thousands of workers and their families from being homeless especially after retirement, assuring the Governor of workers’ continuous support and cooperation for his administration to succeed in all ramifications.

Mr. Halliru told the Governor that all arrangements are in top gear for the union to publicly declare its position in respect of good governance administered by Governor Bello Matawalle especially the favourable policies that directly affect all workers in the state.

The event was witnessed by the Speaker, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya, Secretary to the State Government, Kabiru Balarabe, Chief of Staff Government House, Ibrahim Suleiman, Head of Service, Kabiru Muhammad Gayari, among others.
