Despite her omission from the Nigeria final list, the World Athletics has included Nigeria’s track star, Tobiloba Amusan made the list of athletes released for the entry.

Amusan was omitted from the Nigerian list following her suspension by the Athletic Integrity Unit (AIU) after she failed to attend a doping test.

Amusan stunned the world last year after she clinched the Women’s 100m hurdles final.

She will remain in contention to compete pending her appeal; if she wins, then she stands a chance to defend her title.

Of the 44 individual winners from the 2022 edition in Oregon, 38 are entered to defend their titles in Budapest.

World Athletics confirms that more than 2100 athletes from 202 teams intended to compete at Hungary’s new National Athletics Centre between 19 and 27 August.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s national 400m champion, Imaobong Nse Uko has made the list of athletes released by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria – AFN for the 2023 World Championship in Budapest, Hungary holding from 19 to 27 of August.

Imaobong will participate in the Women’s 400m and 4x400m events at the world championship.

The 19-year-old outclassed her peers to claim her first 400m national title at the Nigerian Championships in Benin, Edo State last month, winning the women’s final A with 52.07s, well ahead of Omolara Omotosho who placed 2nd in 52.87s and Queen Usunobun who came 3rd in 53.16s.

She also qualified for the women’s 4x400m event alongside Omolara Omotosho, Patience Okon-George, Ella Onojuvwevwo during the Lagos Athletics Club Series running a season’s best of 32:27:61s to move up to 14th and punch their ticket to the World Championships.

According to a release from the athletic body, notable Nigerian male athletes like Itshekiri Usheoritshe, Ashe Favour, Seye Ogunlewe, Alaba Akintola, Fakorede Adekalu, Karlington Anunagba, and Enekwechi Chukwuebuka were listed.
