Nigerian Army has arrested an errant soldier seen in a viral video hauling insults  on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for ordering the arrest of one of his colleagues for driving one-way.

Recall that in a video clip last week, Sanwo-Olu was seen asking his security details to run after some motorcyclists said to be violating the state’s traffic rules.

One of the traffic violators, however, told the governor that he was a soldier while the security operatives were dragging him into their vehicle.

Angered by the comment, Sanwo-Olu said, “You are telling me you are a soldier; that is more reason I am going to lock you up”.

Shortly after the arrest, a video of a soldier raining insults on the governor emerged online.

However, addressing journalists on Tuesday, the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, said the soldier had been arrested.

“For what you alleged that soldiers have gone to social media casting aspersions on the office of Lagos State Governor, I will say it is only one soldier that has done that.

“The army has investigated; that soldier has been apprehended, and we are investigating. For every other comical act that you have seen, they are not personnel of the Nigerian Army. We have investigated that”, he said.

Straightnews saw videos of a junior-ranking military man hauling abuses on the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for arresting and abusing one of their colleagues while driving against traffic in the state.

In the viral video, Sanwo Olu was seen asking his security details to run after some motorcyclists said to be riding against traffic.

One of the arrested persons, however, told the governor that he was a soldier while the security operatives were dragging him into their vehicle.

The obviously angry governor was seen vehemently ordering the arrest of the soldier.

In the video, Sanw-olu said, “ Arrest him, arrest him! Take him into your vehicle, you are telling me you are a soldier and that is more reason I am going to lock you up. Get inside there, useless boy! you are telling me you are a soldier.”

The said soldier was heard pleading, “ I am sorry sir, I am sorry sir.”

This action of the governor had angered the rank and files of the army causing them to express their displeasure with the governor’s words against the soldier.

In two of the videos sighted by this reporter, the soldiers enraged by the governor’s action for calling the soldier useless, insisted that the arrested soldier had fought for the country and broke his arm in the process.

However, some soldiers have taken to social media to berate the governor for arresting the soldier and calling him useless.

A new video of another soldier berating the governor has made the rounds on social media.

In the video, the soldier said, ‘’All the touts you are using in Lagos you did not arrest them, it is a soldier you are arresting.”

In another video, a soldier whose name wasn’t mentioned, in anger blasted the governor saying,” You are calling a soldier useless but when you want to do your dirty work you use the soldiers.”
